Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs! There aren’t very many other household pests that have the same “gross-out” factor. The very idea of having bugs in your bed horrifies and disgusts most people, and it should. Don’t put up with these little bloodsuckers. Learn about them so that you can fight them the right way should an infestation happen to you.

What Makes Them So Bad?

For small bugs (about the size of an apple seed, in fact) that can’t fly or jump, they can certainly wreak some havoc. They can survive for months without food and can stow themselves away in clothes, bags, suitcases, and live behind wallpaper, and in box springs and mattress seams. You could easily end up with a whole home bed bug infestation just by staying at a friend’s house or a hotel that may be infested. That’s a costly vacation. A survey done by the National Pest Management Association showed that nearly every pest control professional (99.6% of them) had treated for bed bugs in the previous year.

There’s also the social stigma around having bed bugs. Although these sneaky pests have very little to do with household hygiene, it can be incredibly embarrassing to admit you have a problem. Seek treatment at the first sign of trouble. The experts at Cardinal Insect & Pest Solutions will not judge you, as an infestation can happen to anyone.

What Do Bites Look Like?

Because bed bugs require blood as their main source of nutrition, one of the key signs that you’re dealing with them is by looking for their bites on your skin. They are likely located on areas of the body that are exposed while you sleep, the arms, legs, neck, and even face. They are generally small in size, red, and often itchy. The problem with bites is that the reaction we have to them, if any, happens days after the initial bite. It isn’t immediate, like a mosquito bite, and some people don’t even react at all. That can make it tricky to identify them specifically and easy to mistake them for other bug bites. However, bed bug bites tend to appear in either lines or clusters, so if you see that, you should contact Cardinal Insect & Pest Solutions immediately.

The good news is, with the exception of the possibility of infection related to scratching too much, they are far more annoying than dangerous.

Getting Them Under Control
